Classic Mode Navigation
Classic Mode provides VSCode-familiar navigation patterns with keyboard shortcuts, tab management, and efficient file access. Master these navigation techniques to work productively with multiple documents and leverage AI-enhanced assistance.
File Navigation
Classic Mode provides multiple ways to navigate and open your documents, designed to feel familiar to developers and power users. The Files tab offers visual file browsing with color-coded icons.
Quick File Access
Use ⌘P (Ctrl+P) to open the Quick File Picker for lightning-fast file access. Type to filter by filename or content, press Enter to open the file in a new tab, or Escape to return to your current document.
Open files appear as tabs at the top of the editor with color-coded indicators: Blue for text documents, Green for spreadsheets, and Orange for slides. Click any tab to switch between documents instantly.
Tab Management
Classic Mode's professional tab system keeps multiple documents open simultaneously for efficient multi-document workflows. Tabs show unsaved changes with visual indicators and support both mouse and keyboard interaction.
Essential Tab Shortcuts
- ⌘1-9 (Ctrl+1-9) - Jump directly to any tab by position
- ⌘[ / ⌘] (Ctrl+[ / Ctrl+]) - Navigate between adjacent tabs
- ⌘W (Ctrl+W) - Close the current active tab
- ⌘T (Ctrl+T) - Open Quick File Picker for new documents
Click the X button on any tab to close it, or use keyboard shortcuts for faster navigation. The system automatically manages tab state and switches focus intelligently when tabs are closed.

Tab Navigation
Sidebar Navigation
The sidebar contains two navigation modes that serve different purposes. The Files tab provides a grid view with visual representation of all documents, using color coding (Blue for Text, Green for Spreadsheet, Orange for Slides) for instant recognition.
Click any file or node to open that document in a new tab. Right-click files in the Files tab for context menu options including copy, duplicate, and delete operations.
Document Editing Navigation
Once you're editing documents, Classic Mode supports all standard text editing shortcuts you're familiar with. Use ⌘F (Ctrl+F) for find and replace, ⌘A (Ctrl+A) to select all content, and ⌘Z/⌘⇧Z (Ctrl+Z/Ctrl+Y) for undo and redo operations.
Spreadsheet Navigation
Spreadsheet documents support arrow key navigation between cells, Tab/Shift+Tab for horizontal movement, and Enter/Shift+Enter for vertical navigation. Use Ctrl+Arrow keys to jump quickly to the edge of data regions.
AI-Enhanced Navigation
Classic Mode's AI integration provides context-aware assistance while maintaining familiar navigation patterns.
The AI integration provides context-aware assistance that understands which file you're working on and can reference content across all open tabs. It sees relationships between documents and can suggest workflow improvements based on your current work.
Smart AI Commands
Try commands like "Open a new spreadsheet with this data" to create and populate new files, "Update all open documents with this information" for cross-tab editing, or "Create slides from my text document" to generate presentations from existing content.
