Canvas Workspace

Canvas Mode's workspace is built around a three-panel layout that keeps your AI assistant, visual canvas, and document editor all within reach. Understanding how these panels work together will help you build workflows efficiently.

Understanding the Three Panels

  • Chat Panel - The left panel houses your AI assistant for generating and modifying content. The AI can see and work with your entire canvas, understanding the context of all your documents when making suggestions or changes. You can ask it to create workflows, modify existing content, or help with any document in your project.
  • Canvas Panel - The center area shows your documents as connected nodes that you can arrange visually. When you ask the AI to create content, it appears here as nodes. Click any node to select it and open it in the editor panel. The canvas maintains your project structure and workflow connections.
  • Editor Panel - The right panel provides detailed editing for whatever document you've selected. It contains the complete editor functionality with rich text editing, spreadsheet calculations, or slide creation. The editor automatically switches when you select different nodes on the canvas.

Working with Nodes

Each document appears as a node on your canvas - a visual card that shows the document type, name, and key statistics. Nodes are designed to be intuitive to work with, using familiar drag-and-drop interactions.

Organizing Your Canvas

  • Drag nodes to organize your workspace however makes sense for your project
  • Select multiple nodes by holding Shift and clicking to move related documents together
  • Snap to alignment guides - nodes automatically align when dragged near each other
  • Group related content by keeping connected documents close together

Editing Content

  • Click any node to select it and open the editor panel
  • Real-time editing - changes save automatically as you type
  • Live statistics update on the node (word count, rows, slide count)
  • Rename nodes by clicking the pen icon on the node header

Navigating Large Projects

As your projects grow, you'll need to navigate around larger canvases efficiently. Canvas Mode provides several tools to help you move around and organize your workspace.

Zoom and Pan Controls

  • Scroll wheel to zoom in and out for better visibility
  • Pinch gesture on trackpad or mobile for zooming
  • Drag the background to pan around large canvases
  • Space + drag for precise panning control
  • Double-click canvas to fit all nodes in your view

Organization Strategy

  • Center important nodes in your main viewing area
  • Use empty space to separate different project phases
  • Arrange left to right to show document progression
  • Keep related content close for easier editing and reference
